While solid wood toys and puzzles are often difficult to find, ply or particle board toys and puzzles are quite common. But these products give off toxic fumes from the glues used, including formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. These toys and puzzles are easy to pick by the layers of pressed wood seen from the edges, or from the fine particles of the sheeting. Sometimes particleboard products will use an edging strip to cover the open particle edge.
